The Oyster Catcher in Rhosneigr has welcomed the first ‘Rookie’ onto its hospitality training programme, ‘The Hub’.
Jacob Matts, 22, has joined the Front of House team and becomes the first to join the hospitality training programme, which runs at each of 16 Hospitality’s sites across Cheshire and North Wales.
Talking about his new role, Jacob said:
“I am really excited to join The Hub training programme. As well as getting the chance to learn whilst I work alongside an experienced team of hospitality professionals, the external trips that are included are very varied and show a whole different side to the industry that you probably wouldn’t get the opportunity to explore elsewhere.
“I am looking forward to progressing within the programme and seeing where it will lead me in my future career.”
16 Hospitality launched the new scheme in February after a successful open day for potential applicants at The Oyster Catcher. Offering some of the most varied and ‘hands on’ hospitality training in the UK, The Hub is designed to help combat the lack of skilled chefs and service staff in Anglesey and the hospitality industry as a whole. This comes after a recent report from the Recruitment and Employee Confederation (REC) and KPMG.
Alongside gaining formal qualifications, accredited by City & Guilds, the training programme will provide a variety of unique and exciting experiences for the ‘Rookies’, including sea fishing, wine tasting and brewery tours, thanks to links with a range of hospitality partners.
The training programme is open to all ages, with the only requirement being that applicants hold no previous hospitality experience and have an inherent passion to succeed within the industry.
