The White Eagle Welcomes New ‘Rookie’ from Holyhead

The White Eagle in Rhoscolyn has announced the appointment of a new ‘Rookie’ to their hospitality training programme, The Hub at 16 Hospitality.

Lara Sillence, 16, from Holyhead has joined the pub’s talented back of house team and will be working closely with them, learning the tricks of the trade as the longstanding team share all their experience and knowledge with her. The hands-on training experience includes the opportunity to take part in external trips in partnership with a number of the pub’s suppliers, from sea fishing to foraging and wine tasting.

At the end of the year, Lara will hope to gain a formal hospitality qualification, accredited by City & Guilds.

Speaking of her new role, Lara said: “I’ve always had a real passion for food and hospitality as my family loved cooking and encouraged me to join in from a young age. When I left school I knew that it was the industry I wanted to pursue a career in.

“The White Eagle has a fantastic reputation, both locally and nationally, and, being from Holyhead, it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to undergo a training programme in a well-respected site that is practically on my doorstep!

“I am most looking forward to developing my skills and experience over the next year and I have already had so much support from the team here, particularly the back of house team, who have been very supportive and already taught me so much.

“My dream is to travel the world with my cooking and to refine my skills in different kitchens and environments. I’m really looking forward to putting my passion into practice at The White Eagle.”

General Manager at The White Eagle, Adrienne Owen, concludes:

“We’re very pleased to welcome Lara to The Hub and believe she will be a valuable addition to our fantastic team here at The White Eagle. We see a very bright future for her and we are looking forward to seeing her progression and personal and professional development throughout her training programme.

“We’re passionate about delivering a superior customer service and a unique experience to every customer that walks through our doors, whether they’re popping in for a pint and a catch up with friends or enjoying a three-course meal, and growing a strong service team plays a vital part in that.”

16 Hospitality, which operates in Cheshire and on Anglesey, launched their training programme in February and offers the training programme at each of their sites. The training programme is open to anyone without previous experience in hospitality but with the passion to build a successful career in the industry, regardless of age or circumstance.
